Angel Wu

Growing up in Canada, I learned to appreciate the changing wildlife and found that the boundaries between home and nature blurred. It wasn’t until I moved away that I was pushed to rethink my own relationship with wilderness; my glass sculptures are an attempt to bridge the gap between the natural and manmade world while living in a city, where we experience nature that often is curated and controlled by the urban environment around it.

My work is informed by artists that lead by innovation, like Louis Comfort Tiffany, and those that bring nature indoors, such as Alphonse Mucha. Each stained glass piece I create is unique in its engraving, painting, and shape; hand-made and delicately produced, my works provide a personalized experience depending on the color and quantity of light each day brings. The unique painting method I use on glass involves applying transparent paint in thin, delicate layers to create a multi-dimensional effect when light passes through my pieces, invoking a variety of refractions in different shapes, colors, and opacities.
